Christmas

Christmas in America was different but also an expierence. That's the time when most of the exchange students get homesick and miss their familys and friends. For me it was kinda true, because we didn't have Lebkuchen (ginger bread cookies) or an Adventskranz (aaahm?!). But luckily I was around my host family most of the time, so it wasn't that bad. I also made my own Adventskranz. It looked pretty bad, but it was nice to have one. My family probably thought I was insane or something haha.

The decorations on the house can't be described, you just gotta see it. It's so amazing when you drive home and see all the lights and colors. Unfortunately I didn't take a lot of pictures.

Before Christmas we met with our host grandma and some friends and made cookies.It was funny because my chinese host sister has never done it in her life, so she was all excited about it.

 That was our Christmas tree. It looked awesome with all the presents next to it. But, nobody has a real tree, they are all fake. We opened our presents on Christmas Eve and my host dad dressed up as Santa and we had to sit on his knees and tell him if we were good last year.It was sooo funny hahaha.

Since my boyfriend and I couldn't meet on Christmas Eve, he surprised me with a day in a park downtown. We took some pictures and had dinner afterwards.

Thanksgiving & Black Friday

I hope everybody knows what Thanksgiving is. My host family always celebrates with 3-4 turkeys and lots of lots of food. It's all about eating and I loved it :D I've never seen so much food and weeks after Thanksgiving we still had leftovers. In the first picture you can see pumpkin pie. It's a tradition to eat it on Thanksgiving.I haven't met a single person who doesn't like it, that's why you can find everything with pumpkin spice. Creamer, coffee, ice cream, oreos everything. At this point: I can't stand the taste of any of them. But maybe I'm just weird haha.

After dinner we waited until it was midnight and went shopping. Maybe you've heard about Black Friday, it starts at 12 and all the stores have biiiiiig sales. I'm not kidding, people end up in the hospital because they wanted the best deals. While others were shopping until 6 in the morning we went home at 3. I still bought a lot because after we woke up in the morning we went shopping again.

Halloween

Hi guys :) I know I'm the worst blogger you can possible imagine. Even though, I thought it might be a good idea to write in English, since it is faster and everything I experience is - of course - in English. So today is December 24th but I'll start with Halloween. Yes it's quite a while since October but who cares. Okay Americans and Halloween.. IT'S CRAZY! 3 weeks before, everybody ran to the stores and bought decoration, huge plastic ghosts and lots of candy. In some neighbourhoods it's like a competition what house is the scariest or the most decorated. Even in school we had dress up days and the teachers decorated their class rooms.

 On Friday I didn't go to school because we went to Montana.

My host grandma lives there by herself in a cabin deeeeeeep in the forest. There is absolutely nothing around but trees. She has no phone service, no warm water and no electricity. But I definitely have to say that Montana is so beautiful! I've never seen a landscape like that.

We went trick or treating with our little sister. In Germany it's different but here a lot of High School students go. And for good reason. You get so much candy!  Everybody was waiting behind their doors (or even in front of their doors to scare little kids) to hand out candy. Some people even made their own cookies or gave us hot cocoa. We stayed the whole weekend and played games and stuff.

Kleines Update

Hey Leute :) Ja ich lebe noch! Ich wollte euch mal ein kurzes Update geben, denn ich habe gerade keine Lust den Halloween,Thanksgiving, Christmas Post nach zu holen :D Werde ich aber noch :D Mit ein biiiiiiischen Verspätung eben. Also das Erste was es neues gibt, ist dass ich mir einen Sidecut rasiert und meine Haare braun gefärbt habe. Jap nicht wirklich interessant. Daaaaaaann ist es vielleicht noch ganz interessant, falls es jemanden gibt der das noch nicht weiß, dass ich seit Homecoming, auch mit meinem damaligem Date zusammen bin. Auch eine kulturelle Erfahrung wie strickt das hier gesehen wird. Alleine im Zimmer sein ist da schon mal gar nicht ;) Verglichen zu anderen Gastfamilien sind meine Gasteltern aber eig echt ganz cool drauf. 
Was gibt es noch... mir fällt gerade auf wie random dieser Post eig ist :D
Ach ja. An allen High Schools in den USA gibt es jährlich einen Wettbewerb in dem es darum geht, vor Publikum und einer Jury ein Gedicht zu präsentieren. Wenn man gut genug ist, tritt man gegen die Gewinner anderer Schulen an und irgendwann ist man dann eben der Beste der ganzen USA. Man kann Stipendien und Geldpreise gewinnen. Wir haben klein angefangen, und zwar innerhalb der Klasse. Jeder musste sich ein Gedicht aussuchen und dieses dann der Klasse präsentieren. Mit Benotung. Ich habe natürlich vergessen es zu lernen und hab dann auf dem Weg zur Schule noch versucht es mir zu merken. Nachdem jeder sein Gedicht vorgetragen hatte und ich meines beim vortragen nur mit Mühe und Not aufsagen konnte, haben wir demokratisch abgestimmt wen wir zur School competition schicken, und wer unserer Meinung am besten war. Guess what -.- Die Mehrheit hat für mich gestimmt. Ich habe jetzt also die Ehere eine Biografie über mich zu schreiben, zwei Gedichte zu analysieren und auswendig zu lernen und mich vor der ganzen Schule zu blamieren. Yeey. Es ist am 15 Januar und ich bin mal gespannt wie das wird. Aber cool finde ich es trotzdem irgendwie.
Jetzt sind alle im Prüfungsstress, weil die finals anstehen (Abschlussprüfungen) Diese muss man auch schreiben wenn man in der elften Klasse ist. Ich mache mir da aber keine großen Sorgen, denn meine Noten sind soweit oke und ich bin ja hier nicht um zu lernen :D
Am 23 Januar endet das Semester und ich habe eeeendlich kein Food class mehr. Das heißt am 23 Januar müssen wir finals schreiben. Von 8 bis 14:30 schreiben wir also in jedem Fach eine Stunde Prüfung. Und wem was aufgefallen ist, das ist an meinem Geburtstag... Juhuuu. Das entscheidet dann auch unsere Note für das Zwischenzeugniss. Das sind meine Noten vom letzten Zwischenbericht:

Außerdem ist diese Woche wiedermal Spirit Week, aber dieses mal wegen Golden Throne, das ist eine goldene Toilette. Es ist ein Wanderpokal, und es geht nur gegen unsere Rivalen Schule West Valley. Aber darüber erzähle ich euch nächstes mal mehr, denn das Hauptevent, das Basketballspiel ist er am Samstag.
